SA Lube Success story – Zweli Cekiso
I started my Journey with SA Lube in 2018, this was after moving from Durban to further my studies at the University of Johannesburg in 2016. I could not register due to bursary complications and when it was sorted there was no space anymore in Bachelor of Commerce related subjects. I then decided to stay a bit a look for work.
2 years later an opportunity came by and I joined SA Lube. I was given an opportunity to provide technical support to customers which meant I had to go through vigorous tests like the Tribology course which was difficult for a person with no science/chemistry background but I was hungry and determined to grab the opportunity with both hands. I passed my Tribology and went on to do short courses on Excel, Oil Analysis, First Aid, HSSE Rep, etc. All these helped me to excel in my job which was to advise our customers to use the correct oil in their cars, machines and sort all other oil related issues be it over the counter, over the phone, on emails and on their premises.
Working in technical enhanced my communication skills as I was always speaking to customers, ensuring I give out the correct advice while keeping a smile on and handling all the pressures that come with working with many people from different backgrounds. Luckily I had worked in retail before which helped me in knowing what customers expect and how to ensure they are always happy. I also learned a lot of leadership skills which are needed as I had to train customers and fellow colleagues on all the technical aspects, new products and changes on our product offerings.
Fast forward in 2023, I got a promotion to Admin Manager, with duties of ensuring smooth operations from our admin team, training the team and guiding new members from our new branches all that is expected in their roles and promoting a good synergy between our customers, warehouse team and sales team. Furthermore, I have also taken a step in furthering my studies and chose a different route from BCom which is Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and I am well on my way to finishing my degree which is sponsored by SA Lube.
My journey has been nothing short of inspiring and SA Lube has given me a career when all I needed was a job. Through employee development programs and the willingness to change lives, I can without a doubt say I am proud to be part of this organization and look forward to being a part of for many years to come and reciprocate the belief and faith that has been showed in me.
Here’s to delighting our customers, changing lives and doing it with a smile! Looking forward to many more years at SA Lube!!!
